Dee’s Volunteering Story
“I started volunteering 5 years ago after a friend of mine had myeloma, and once her treatment was over she found the support of The Sara Lee Trust via its Sanctuary Days to be invaluable. It meant she had space to discuss her feelings with others, outside of the family, going through similar experiences. As her friend I was so impressed with how the trust supported her and the difference it made to her , I wanted to support The Sara Lee Trust that had given so much to her.”

Nigel’s Volunteering Story
“ I like old travel books , militaria and transport books. New books are so expensive , so buying second hand books through our retail outlets means I can read a wider range that interest me at an affordable price whilst helping recycle treasured possessions.I have been in retail for 50 years and volunteering means I can enjoy my interests at a more leisurely pace. I enjoy meeting other volunteers and customers.”

Jack’s Volunteering Story
"I enjoy volunteering because I am with friendly, kind and caring staff and volunteers. The customers are always polite and friendly and make the job worthwhile. Volunteering has really helped with my social interaction skills and improved my self confidence.”

Laura’s Volunteering Story
“ I came to England as a language student from France, I gave my time volunteering which has really improved my English. It has been nice to be in an environment that gives back to others. I have researched the value of many items for sale in the shop, and been able to support others in their volunteering too. I have really enjoyed my time with The Sara Lee Trust.”

I don't have a strong support network or family, so this has made me feel cared about and supported emotionally and spiritually
